Munich Aikido Iaido DojoThe art of challenging one’s ego

What is Iaido?
Iaido is the art of drawing one’s sword and defeating the opponent in a single movement. The opponent is of course imagined and the combat is performed in a “Kata” (a set of stylized movements). In fact, Iaido allows us to face our number one enemy; oneself. This is why we often refer to this practice as “slicing one’s ego”.
It is also believed that this practice is a method of reform, and unity of oneself.
Iaido is practiced with a Bokken (wooden sword) and an Iaito (unsharpened sword). At the expert level however, one uses a Katana (sharpened sword).

Why practice Iaido?
Like Aikido, Iaido is a philosophy and a lifestyle which allows for personal development, increase in self-confidence and concentration as well as bodily, mental and emotional relaxation.
With every sword movement, one challenges our biggest enemy (oneself) which slowly drains our ego, resulting in it taking less and less control over our lives.

For who?
Iaido is for everyone,  regardless of gender, physical condition or age (for our classes; 18 years of age is required).
